Nadezda Petrovic was one of the most significant Serbian artists in the first half of 20th century. Her painterly style brought significant changes into Serbian art and also anticipated the expressionism of color that was yet to come in third and fourth decade. She worked as a drawing teacher in school, she was co-founder of Lada, she was involved into the founding of The first Yugoslav Art Colony in Sicevo and Pirot, and she was co-founder of the “Kolo srpskih sestara” (early pro-feminist organization). She actively took part in cultural life of Serbia and Belgrade. She died in 1915. in Valjevo, in the hospital where she was volunteering as a nurse during World War One.
