Jovan Bijelić
Kolunić kod Bosanskog Petrovca

Jovan Bijelic was one of the central figures of Serbian and Yugoslavian art scene between two wars. He was one of the founders of art group Oblik (“The Shape”) which was the most progressively directed group of the time. Bijelic was born in Bosnia in 1884. He studied painting in Prague and made study trips to France, Italy and Germany, where he could become familiar with current streams of European art scene. In modern painting he incorporated strong national feeling that can be particularly seen in his numerous paintings of Bosnian landscape. He went through several phases: from influence of Cezanne and Cubism, than Realism and color phase, up to the very border of abstract art. He had a studio in Belgrade where a number of young artists came to learn painting, and they were all very influenced by him.
