Đura Jakšić

(1832 - 1878)

Biography:

Djura Jaksic was a key figure of Serbian Romanticism. He was born in 1832. in Srpska Crnja in Banat. He learned painting skills in Konstantin Danil's studio, and after that at art academies in Vienna and Munich. He was a poet and a painter, bohemian and a great patriot. At the age of 16 he fought as a volunteer for the revolution. He died in 1873. of tuberculosis.
