The very word of painting colony is old a few hundred years. The ideas of initial colonies were togather painters in natural ambient and to create under the blue skies in order to exchange artistic experiences. They would spend couple of days or weeks in the chosen place and the purpose was always the change of environment that will positively affect artistic stimulus, a vision of creation and interaction with colleagues. That form of painting maintained until present days.
Art colony titled "Helena"had different perception of the very conception of that word. Namely, for the second year in row, upon the invitation of an organizer, artists spend ten days in Greece, where in authentic seaside environment they spend time bounding with their colleagues, exchanging experiences but also working. What геallу distinguishes "Helena"colony from all the others is the fact that artists are not obliged by the terms of time, rechnique or number of paintings, but at their own liberty of choice they chose paintings to represent themselves on the exhibition taking place in gallery bearing the same name as the colony, "Helena".
Thls уеаг, upon the invitation of аn organizers of this manifestation and owners of gallery "Helena"- Mrs. Ljiljana Radosević and Mr. Dejan Ristanović, eighteen artisans responded, and those are: Olivera Grbić, Tatjana Pirović Stefanović, Momčilo Antonović, Milan Stašević, Živko Đak, Božidar Damjanovski, Kemal Ramujkić, Milan Pivnički, Željko Đurović, Ljuba Popadić, Zivomir Popović, Srđan Đile Marković, ZoranTešanović, Predrag Todorović, Budimir Dimitrijević, as well as the guests of the colony - Momčilo Macanović and Saša Marjanović as domestic participants and Ауgen Turanli as the only foreign author.
Olivera Grbić an artist which, judging by wideness of conception and by her painting qualities, belongs to the group of the best landscape painters of poetic realism on Serbian Art scene. Momčilo Antonović continues with his recognizabie serial of "Belgrade оn Meteors" paintings. Vivacious, very expressive in colors and moves, Antonović this time presents famous marks of Belgrade such as the Temple of St. Sava, the Church of Unity and the church of St. Marcus in оnе way, unigue for him solely. With a strong color, he generates dynamics and he is focusing on the detail that affects him the most in a given moment.
Milan Stašević has translated his world of fantastic motives where animals, geometric shapes, symbols and people"are being friends" into specific system of signs. On every each of his paintings, a motion саn be felt, a force, and еnеrgy of life that moves and rules the world.
Živko Đak has a very specific way of observing the people around him. On his canvases, оnе саn feel a dashing atmosphere that he highlights with dynamic solutions for his compositions and with bright colors that he applies. He presents people in fragments, yet discovering a sole detail on female bodies, a hint playing with one's imagination.
Božidar Damjanovski is оnе of ours first painters of an accentuated postmodern vocation who in hyperrealist manner, by follovving the canons of an antique art, paraphrases motives derived from the classic art and he actually evokes sculptures on his canvases. Those paintings by themselves are symbols of past and present, transience and eternity, on which he have not given up, not even this time.
Kemal Ramujkić is on of themost sophisticated painters of figurativ orientation who extracts his inspiration out of pointillists and French impressionists. Thick, short moves illustrate quivering ofan air that is felt on every each of hts paintings. Selection of motives оn his paintings gives them a very unusual allure.
Milan Pivnički truly, in the spirit of old masters, paints Vojvodina's lands and salashes (estates). Peace, tranquility and digntty are what reflect the most from his canvases.
Željko Đurović- unconsciously drives us into his vvorld of dreams, fairies and elves, sea sirens, fantastical beings, fairytale landscapes of sea depths and sky heights, illustrating this through abundance of strong colors and courageous contrasts between lights and shadows.
Ljubomir Popodić is identifiable by his realistic motives that he skiltfully fits into the tradittonal painting. On this occasion, he presented sunshined doors and windows that in some lyrical manner illustrate spirit of the Mediterranean's. Popadić focuses on particular segments leaving us to encircle the entity and figure the mosaic of cubes оn our own.
Živomir Popović is a painter from Belgrade, but he is more in attendance оn the European scene than he is on the local one. The view оп the world that he exhibits is a futuristic, unreal, that is the world of fantastic animals, of supernatural creatures out of time observing us from his canvases. It could and should be said that Popović is the critic of contemporary society.
Srđan Đile Marković is marked as an underground artist, musician and composer of post-punk epoch that intrigues his public by his stage performances and by his presentation of fine arts. The very first thing we perceive in his acts is a huge reliance on comic books, highlighted illustrative pattern and a sense of humor, both aiming to crack false ideas concerning social identity and a human as аn individual inside the society, while simultaneously his canvases behaveas the caricature of modern soctety.
Zoron Tesanović is a painter concentrated and turned to some other worlds that show the world of beauties and the beasts see sirens, sailors, unicorns and many other, diverse beings from the magic forest and the depths of the sea. All those beings find places on his paintings in pastel, vivid colors breathing the positive еnеrgу.
Predrog Todorović slowly introduces to us the world of fairy tales and timeslhat have passed by long time ago, doing this with his delicate and enchanted visions and details he notices around
himself modestly offering to take us to those magical, far and to some extent mystical and forgotten areas and epochs.
Images placed in metaphysical areas on the paintings of Budimir Dimitrijević indicate Mediterranean's sights or pastoral idyllic atmosphere, and certainly, they represent timeless and imaginary personal memories.
Momčilo Macanović, is a known artist of hyperrealism from Montenegro. He is bringing us back to the period of Renaissance, skillfully, with abundance of romance, nostalgic pain and discreet emotions, taking us back to the period that unguestionably inspires him.
Saša Marjonović is an artist of a уounger generation, and has a unique way of conjuring up to us the world he sees. Dim colorizing, monochrome palette of his colors and exploration he conducts оn thefield of forms, textureand painted space, are perhaps those components defining his canvases the most.
Ayten Turanli, in her brave compositions that are close to enformalle „examines“ diverse textures of materials by applying different, non-painted elements. That is how she overcomes two dimensions so common for thc painting and enters the space of an observer.
