The exhibition of Ljiljana Žegarac fashion projects
The fashion projects exhibition subtitled "Lead Soldier" and "Ballerina" more accurately describes the subject matter, that is, the frame-work within which Ljiljana Žegarac realized the visions of her high fashion collections. Furthermore, the artist narrowed down that frame-work into a more refined and more polished cycle, referencing the creative work of two artists who have left unique impressions in that art domain. So with the "Lead Soldier" collection Ljiljana Žegarac paid tribute to Pavle Vasić, and to Duško Ristić with the "Ballerina" collection, two Professors that have in those art domains "given their biggest contribution to a profession for which they educated students at the University of Applied Arts & Design in Belgrade". As she was herself a student in the class of Professor Pavle Vasić, and then later in the class of Professor Duško Ristić, Ljiljana Žegarac showed with her homage collection a deep moral act of respect towards her two Professors.
Having precisely determined in which direction to be heading, the artist created 24 projects using technique combinations between collage and drawings. With this method, she equalized the scene and typified the figure, and laid the basis for creating the garb.
Keeping in mind the military uniforms published by Professor Pavle Vasić in professional publications and studies, Ljiljana Žegarac connected in specific parts with the original, giving the global form her unique style giving it a refined elegance. The garb worn by ballerinas, even though in form stemming from a neo-baroque pattern, and related to the Venice carnival costume also shows the individual expression of this artist, especially noticeable in the colors.
As these fashion projects were intended for high fashion, it would be irrelevant to compare them to world trends or styles that mark today the "in" (for example, in one of the leading fashion lines, the military expression is predominant). As high fashion has different criteria, it was best described by Pierre Yves Guillen when he stated: "It's an incredible expression of a world of mystique, as much as that of the mysterious (world)." Inside it, the artist's imagination has as much freedom as the author themselves allows or limits.
Observed in the first, project phase, this fashion cycle of Ljiljana Žegarac allows for big possibilities of realization with adequate materials., However, even if not realized as a high fashion collection, it can still be transposed into set costumes with modern expressions, or with clever simplifications, into dress articles of "prêt-a-porter" type.
