Biography


Ljiljana Žegarac was born on May 31st, 1941, in Nova Gradiška. Ljiljana lives in Belgrade, where she attended and graduated the "Kralj Petar" ("King Peter") Elementary school, and also the "Prva Beogradska" (First Belgrade) Gymnasium. Ljiljana got a diploma from the Fine Arts Academy in Belgrade, in the Costume Design department of Professor Pavle Vasić. She completed her post-graduate studies at the same Fine Arts Academy, specializing in the area of contemporary fashions with Professor Andjelka Slijepčević.

Her study visit to London between 1967 and 1968, which made possible by the British Council, enabled Ljiljana to observe the creative works of various artists in several different Fine Art Academies, as well as visit many theater and current cultural events. In 1975, Ljiljana received a National Scholarship for Fine Arts Graduates, that she used to study and research many fashion designs throughout England and Scotland.

Art and educational activities:

- "Mod' Art International" - French School of Fashion and Art in Belgrade. Professor since 2007.

- University of Applied Arts in Belgrade, as lecturer [docent?] of Contemporary Fashions since 1979, where through her work as an educator, strongly encourages esthetical values of fashion design in her students. From the position of a full time professor, she retired in 2001.

- Higher Textile School in Belgrade, where she forms the Esthetical Shaping as a subject, and is a lecturer from 1975 until 1979.

- Member of the Applied Arts Organization "ULUPUDS" since 1966, when she also begins displaying her works at various exhibits such as: The May Exhibit, Fashion gatherings, Artistic March, October Gallery, etc.

- Exhibits her work at the Belgrade, Zagreb, Vienna, Budapest and other cities Art Shows.

- Held many lectures and seminars in the fields of fashion and clothing, and wrote many professional articles.

- Displays her unique work collections at Author's Fashion Reviews and independent exhibits.

Continuous employment in the capacity of an independent fashion designer, at the following companies:
- "National Salon" - the very first boutique in Belgrade, from 1969 to 1970.
