Dimitrije Avramović

Dimitrije Avramovic was one of the most appreciated and respectful artist in 19th century Serbia. He is considered to be representer of style of Nazarenes in church painting. His most significant work is a large altarpiece and 18 wall paintings with subject from Old and New Testament in Cathedral Church in Belgrade (Saborna crkva). He also made portraits, wrote articles for newspapers, and researched medieval cultural and artistic heritage. He was actively involved into political life of his time, and he is considered to be the first artist in Serbia who draw political caricatures.
